tea, cake and... well... ARRGH!!!

People drive me CRAZY at times!

You might relate to this,Reader...

Yesterday we were sitting in my sister's living-room, sipping a nice cup of afternoon tea...

Kids were playing in the background, having a good time...

It was gloomy outside, and lovely and cozy inside...

All good so far, right?

And then, out of the blue, my sister gets on the war path!

"So how's your online 'stuff' going?" she asks, her voice loaded with skepticism as she says "STUFF" (notice how she never calls it "work" or "business", oh no! It's just "stuff"... if she'd said "fluff" I would have thought she was a human form of ChatGPT lol)

I reckon I could have said I was applying for "most successful business owner of the year" award and she wouldn't have changed her line of questioning...

Because that's what I faced next: an endless barrage of aggressive questioning, that left me wondering if making YouTube videos is now somehow a criminal offence.

"Is this really the right way to do it?"

"How much do you make now with this?"

"How many hours do you work?"

"Can't you just do this [insert unrealistic idea here]?"

"Wouldn't it make more sense if you did that [insert another unrealistic idea here]?"

Oh my goodness!

One minute I'm enjoying tea and cake - the next I'm on some weird kind of hot seat, all my business decisions being questioned by an admin assistant who's never made a penny online (yep, that's my sister).

Basically, I'm doing everything wrong, according to my little sis.

I should be doing less of this, more of that, and none of this other.

In all honesty, I'm absolute cr*p at dealing with this kind of sh*t.

I'm the sort of person who just sits there, answering the questions dumbly and politely, smiling and not standing up for myself.

What I really want to say in those situations is not pretty (and it goes along the line of "Shut the f*%k up!" and all kinds of other swear words lol!)

If this has happened to you, Reader, and made you feel down, I don't blame you!

I got home a little depressed to be honest.

But then I took a deep breath... and here's what got me to a good mental place again:

The truth is, no one really gets to tell you what you should or shouldn't do.

YOU are the captain of your own ship; YOU get to make your own decisions; YOU alone know WHY you're doing what you're doing.

The other truth is, it's very easy to tell other people what to do - especially when you haven't done it yourself.

It all seems very, very easy from the sidelines... but when you're in the trenches, it's a different story.

In the case of my sister, she's never run a business (online or offline), she's never made a dollar online, and the reality is, she just doesn't have a clue!

Which in turn means she doesn't get to tell me ANYTHING about what I should or shouldn't do!

If you're going through this, reminding yourself of these truths will help you, I hope.

And now, let's start the week full of positive energy!

Don't let the doubters and the nay-sayers derail you!

You CAN do this!

Speak soon,

Sophie

Winding road through snowy, barren landscape

I'm coming to the end of this road, Reader... Soon you'll get no more emails from me (maybe that's a relief lol!). After months of umming and ahing... ...and weeks of trying to pivot whilst still keeping a few toes and fingers in the make money online niche... I'm finally moving on for real. "If Easy and Gluten Free is THE thing, then you cannot do anything other than that" were my mentor's words yesterday. And he's right. The time has come for me to choose and go all in. So what does this...

a window with a sign that says keep going, almost there

There's nothing more discouraging than to compare yourself to others who are way ahead of you. I know this - and yet I fall into this trap more often than I care to admit. The other day, I wrote to you about how exciting it is to build a new business... But that's only half the story. It's exciting, for sure. But it's also hard. If you're having a bad day, I'm right there with you Reader. This morning I found myself staring at my YouTube stats for my easy and gluten free channel... ... the...

Get things done!

Nearly 7pm here in my part of the world... And I'm in trouble, Reader... Pizza's in the oven. We eat in 10 minutes. And I haven't written my email to you yet! I broke my own rule this morning and got distracted instead of doing the important tasks first. So now I'm running late, tired, uninspired, and not proud of myself at all. But there's an important lesson here, that should help you. It's a simple trick I can share, that will make you fiercely productive and help you move forward faster....
